Notice of cancellation: Trafford Centre Performance and DVD Signing

It is with sincere regret that due to the onset of viral Gastroenteritis
Russell Watson will be unable to fulfil his engagements at the Trafford Centre
tomorrow (November 25th). This comes following medical instructions from his
Doctor.

Russell is understandably very upset not to keep his commitments to the
Trafford Centre and for letting down the centre and his fans at such short
notice, especially for those who have travelled a long distance.

Russell sends his heartfelt and sincerest apologies to everyone. He has
instructed his management teams to do everything possible to find a replacement
date for the Trafford Centre DVD signing and performance in the very near
future.

Meanwhile, copies of his DVD, Russell Watson - Return of the Voice: Live at
the Royal Albert Hall, remain on sale and both Russell and his publishers Lace
DVD would like to thank all those many wonderful and loyal fans whose purchases
have contributed to its great sales success so far.

RETURN OF THE VOICE: LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL OUT NOW!

Get ready to celebrate with Russell his triumphant year with this months release of his stunning DVD RETURN OF THE VOICE: LIVE AT THE ROYAL ALBERT HALL. Charting one of Russells spectacular Royal Albert Hall concerts earlier this year, the DVD captures the singer before a packed audience of adoring fans. Beginning with powerful renditions of ‘Somewhere’ and ‘Be my Love’, Russell then takes the audience on a journey through an eclectic mix of West End inspired tracks Italian love songs, Frank Sinatra’s finest and, of course, classical favourites from over the years. The tracks include his emotional performance of ‘Ave Maria’ which he dedicates to his Grandmother who recently died. Return of the Voice: Live at the Royal Albert Hall is a DVD which reaches out far beyond the original core classical enthusiasts. The ambience amongst an audience of all generations is jovial and excited with the extra dimension of the Arts Symphonic Orchestra and The London Chorus Choir lending visual extremes to the concert. There is a party atmosphere when Russell wraps himself patriotically in a Union Jack and storms through ‘Land of Hope and Glory’ and ‘Jerusalem’ before coming to a roof raising climax with ‘Nessun Dorma.’

His is a voice that can cause you to stop in your tracks, to get goose bumps, to get teary-eyed. That he still has his voice is a minor miracle, for in the last five years he has overcome not only career-threatening, but life-threatening illnesses, with not one, but two pituitary tumours removed. Receiving a standing ovation from many in the audience before he had even sung a note was testament to his popularity and the affection his fans feel for him. "You nearly knocked me off my feet," he joked in his strong Salford accent, at odds with the sensational singing voice that has led some to call him the world's greatest tenor. This was a concert by Watson, but there was an entire orchestra on stage with him, and eight backing singers. He didn't used to get that kind of support when he was singing in bars and clubs in Manchester and London. But that was before his life changed forever after an owner of one club that he was singing at told him that his voice might be better suited to opera and requested that he learn Puccini's Nessun Dorma, the song that he played during his encore last night to rapturous applause. He has not turned his back completely on his former life, however, and at the Colston Hall he put his own spin on some untypical opera fare, including the opening song Somewhere from West Side Story. Another song from the shows, Phantom of the Opera, was the opening number of the second half, and was the definition of gusto. It was not all bombast, however, with not a dry eye in the house when he dedicated Ave Mariato his grandmother, who died earlier this year. Nella Fantasia, the song that kick-started his career in 1999, was a highlight, while if he did not have every single member of the audience on his side before, he certainly did after a prolonged walkabout among the stalls during Volare, during which he even managed a bit of conducting. Who knew opera could be this much fun? 8/10 MARTIN BOOTH

Russell Watson La Voce Tour: More Fan Reviews

As the Russell Watson La Voce tour continues to make its way round the UK, fans have been busy leaving their reviews from each night. Here are a few of the latest: Valbee - Manchester: I have never seen him punch the air so often - so delighted with his performance and for good reason. Just loved seeing that wonderful sparkle back in his eyes - he was just brilliant! It was a good job I'd invested in the waterproof mascara - I needed it especially at the last with "Someone To Remember Me". Also included in the encore was Va Pensiero a real oldy but goody and Russell's version of "Could It Be Magic" - amazing. I LOVED the "Music of the Night" arrangement that included Mary-Jess and my special favourite "E Sara Cosi" is a real hairs-on-the-back-of-the-neck moment. Glorious - Bridgewater: What a wonderful concert @ the 'Bridgewater', an absolutely amazing evening! Which, others have described well and to which I can't add much; except to say, what a superb job Mary Jess is doing, both with her own songs and particularly her beautiful duets with Russell. At only 21 she is very talented and I'm sure has a bright future ahead! Finally, what a fantastic reception Russell got throughout and especially at the end... SO WELL DESERVED AND A JOY TO BE A PART OF!!!... THE VOICE IS DEFINITELY BACK...If you have been to one of Russell’s shows and would like to have your review of the night posted on Russell’s official homepage, then head to the forum HERE.

Russell Watson La Voce Tour: Fan Photos and Reviews

Russell’s tour is now in full swing and continues in Blackpool tomorrow evening at the Winter Gardens. Thanks to all those of you who have been sending in your fan reviews and photos. Here are just a couple: "WHAT A FANTASTIC 'FIRST NIGHT'!!!! The orchestra 'Capital Voices'and Mary Jess were great as was Robert Emery; so energetic, possibly a little eccentric, but definately brilliant at his job, The 'Phantom Suite' was fabulous! Which just leaves... RUSSELL...SIMPLY MAGNIFICENT!!!!!! Really don't think I have ever heard him sing better (and that is not to diminish anything that's gone before)...his voice was truly MAJESTIC!!! Such an emotional evening as others have described; the entire audience on it's feet at the end...and so much love in the room for a VERY SPECIAL MAN!!! THANK YOU RUSSELL FOR AN UNFORGETTABLE EVENING... Wouldn't have missed it for the world!!!" From Gloria, W. Yorkshire who attended Russell's Salford show. "Sheffield tonight was wonderful again. The songs were mostly the same as the Lowry. I didn't go to the oxford concert. Russell added Be My Love to tonight's list of 20 songs! He sang a new song I have never heard before. It was in Italian and there was a phrase that repeated "pasa tella" or something like that. It was a cheerful song. And then he ended the night with "will you remember me?". It was a lovely evening and he sounded fabulous. I will only say that the orchestra could turn down the volume a bit! Some times it was hard to even hear russells voice! He could sing acapella for me! On to Liverpool... :o)." From Nancy, Cherry Valley, Illinois, USA who attended Russell's Sheffield show Taken by Maria at Russell’s Oxford show Taken by Jillwithajay at Russell’s Salford show Keep your reviews coming!

Russell Watson: The New Theatre

Check out this fantastic review from Nicola Lisle!Wow! The Voice is back — and boy, did Russell Watson demonstrate the fact in spectacular style on Monday evening. With no hint of the health problems that have dogged him for the past few years, he took to the stage and instantly captivated the audience with classics from some of his earlier albums, along with numbers from his most recent release, La Voce, all delivered with incredible energy, drama and passion. It’s been said that Russell’s voice has improved since his two life-saving operations, and he certainly has a huge range both in pitch and timbre, from rumbling bass notes to powerfully resonant upper notes. But Russell’s talent doesn’t just lie in his singing; he also has a natural skill for engaging with his audience, and does so with great warmth and humour. This wasn’t so much a concert, more of a huge, friendly party, with a wonderful interplay across the footlights. Favourite aria Volare featured Russell’s now-famous disappearing act into the audience, as well as a chance to sing along (“That’s the best I’ve heard all tour — mind you, this is only the second date!”), while another favourite, Funiculi, Funicula, was clap-along time. But there were more serious moments, too — such as Ave Maria, dedicated to his grandmother, who passed away earlier this year, and tender love songs such as I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You and Somewhere.Promising young singer Mary-Jeffs duetted with him in Music of the Night from The Phantom of the Opera and The Prayer, and he was supported throughout by the excellent Arts Symphonic orchestra, the eight-piece choir Capital Voices and the curiously bare-footed conductor, Robert D.C. Emery. But the night was all about Russell, and his final offering, a powerful rendition of Nessun Dorma, drew a standing ovation. The evening finished several encores later. There is no doubt about it — the Voice is well and truly back.

Mary-Jess to Support Russell Watson on Tour

We're pleased to announce that Russell will be supported on tour by 20 yr-old classical-crossover artist Mary-Jess.Want to know more about Mary-Jess?Well, when Mary-Jess was nine years old she began singing in the Gloucester Cathedral Youth Choir, and this was just the start of her 12 years in the spot light. At the age of 15 Mary-Jess travelled to China for the first time and sang at the opening ceremony of a major school where she attracted a lot of local press coverage. She has been a member of the National Youth Southern Girls Choir of Great Britain and has taken part in many competitions and charity events. In 2009 she flew to China as part of her degree in Music and Chinese Studies at the University of Sheffield. It was here that she entered ‘Min Xing Chang Fan Tian’ (I want to sing to the stars). With her unique voice and grasp of the Chinese language, Mary-Jess took the competition by storm and the 70 million viewers took her to their hearts. Being the only foreign entrant to the competition the odds were stacked against Mary-Jess, but from round one her tenacity in the face of a huge challenge soon turned the audience around.By the time of the final she was being stopped in the streets and attracting huge amounts of attention in the Chinese media. Her performances of 'When You Believe' and 'Time to Say Goodbye' (both hugely popular songs in China) in the live, televised show stormed her to victory and her winner's speech in near-fluent Mandarin cemented her position as a serious singer in the Chinese community. After returning home for Christmas, her story sparked a media frenzy leading Mary-Jess in to the centre of a bidding war from all the major record and management companies, she eventually signed a multi-album recording contract with Decca Records, Universal, and to Jonathan Shalit’s ROAR Global Management.2010 saw Mary-Jess record her debut album with filmic textures and a contemporary flare, working with some of China’s most accomplished musicians to add a touch of the orient; all contributing to an amazing sound guaranteed to captivate audiences worldwide when it is released in summer 2011.Russell says, 'It's a great pleasure to have the hugely talented Mary-Jess supporting me on tour. She will be a welcomed addition to what's set to be a great few months of shows.'

I’ve gota really busy few months of touring coming up so I had a very relaxing one spent athome in Manchester with the kids and my girlfriend. As I said, I’m off to perform in Singapore on Monday, which I’m very excited about. It’s a country I’ve always admired so it’ll be great to spend some time there. ThenI’m hoping to catch a couple of weeks of sun somewhere before I come back to the UKto start rehearsals for the tour. Not sure where I’ll go yet, but looking forward torecharging the batteries. The UK tour starts in March and I’m thrilled it’s virtually sold sold-out.Twenty-three concerts is the biggest tour I’ve ever done so the fact it’s done sowell is really, really great - especially in this economic climate. What can fansexpect? Well it’s going to be a mixture of the last ten years with a few newadditions from my latest album ‘La Voce’. The key thing is that it’s essentially asymphonic concert tour with just the orchestra and myself. I’ve wanted to dosomething like this for a long time so I can’t wait to get cracking. So if you'veyet to grab some of the few remaining tickets then be quick! Also due to massivedemand I've added two more shows...Thurs 21st April - PORTSMOUTH GUILDHALL andSunday 8th May - BRADFORD ST GEORGES HALL. Tickets are available HERE!It’ll be great to see you all on the road. Finally I wanted to thank you all for the gifts and New Year wishes you sent me. I’dlike to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2011. Lots of love and see you in March! Russell x

A message from Russell!

Hi everyone, Russell here. Just wanted to drop by and say a quick hello. How are you all? I'm very busy at the moment preparing for the release of my new album La Voce. There's not long to go now - Nov 22nd! - I can't wait!! And of course my tour. Preparations are now under way and I'm really looking forward to getting out on the road. Hope to see you all there! I've just had a fantastic time performing at Friday Night is Music Night. It was a real thrill to work with conductor Keith Lockhart and the BBC Concert Orchestra... an amazing night! Hope you all enjoyed my Piers Morgan interview? I had a brilliant time with my family and friends on the show. Piers was a real gent and I found the whole experience incredibly positive and enjoyable.I've also just enjoyed a fabulous evening at Raymond Blanc's Le Manoir restaurant, performing for this year's Le Festival aux Quat'Saison. The food was fantastic, company just as good. I loved the intimacy of the setting for the concert. I can really recommend you try it out. Oh, while I remember - be great if you could join me in supporting the Kids Music Counts Campaign. You can find out more info here: http://bit.ly/aaMtZT I hope you're all keeping well and managing to avoid the dreaded winter flu lurgy! If you have any questions for me - leave them in the comments section below and I'll try and answer them when I next get chance. Best wishes and have a happy Halloween! I love the Japanese culture. Its about respect, honour and manners. Tokyo is a fabulous, clean and tidy city with the most wonderful food. Barcelona: One of my career defining moments was singing at the Nucamp Stadium in 1999, united won the treble that year as well! Barcelona is a fantastic place for a holiday. Lake District: Hello Jayne. The Lakes are a great place for relaxing, walking, taking in some fresh air and kicking back. My favourite hotel in the Lakes is The Samling which i always enjoy returning to. Vienna: Hi Annette. I love Austria. Vienna is home to some stunning roman architecture, a favourite moment of mine was eating at a fabulous restaurant with an open-air balcony, the backdrop featured the beautiful St Stephens cathedral, which was just spectacular. Barbados: Hi Lynn.
Russell Watson returns with 'La Voce'

As you all know, the voice of a generation is back, alive and most certainly kicking with a new album on a new label! The tenor who practically invented the classical crossover genre is ready to stun the world again with ‘La Voce’, out in the UK on Monday 22nd November (and Ireland on Fri 19th Nov) on Sony Music.
"Russell is the finest British Tenor of his generation and improves with every performance I hear, we are honoured to have him on our label"– Nick Raphael, Managing Director Epic RecordsRecorded in June 2010 with the Roma Sinfonietta - Ennio Morricone’s orchestra of choice – and produced by Mike Hedges, Russell Watson’s voice has never sounded better.Stronger, more driven and powerful, his renditions of Pino Donaggio’s "Io Che Non Vivo (Senza Te)", Mario Lanza’s "Arrivederci Roma" and Parla Piu Piano (the theme from The Godfather) are as impressive as you’d expect from a man singing with, literally, a new lease of life after overcoming two life-threatening brain tumours. In 2008, when the Salford born tenor finished radiotherapy for the pituitary tumour that saw him undergoing emergency surgery, he decided to embark on a return to music. He soon found that his treatment had given him not just a fresh outlook on the world, but a whole new, deeper, richer voice. “The tumour could have been growing for 10-15 years in my nasal cavity, so when I had it cut out I went from a V8 to a V12!”.Set for release a decade after his number one, Classical-Brit bagging 2000 debut ‘The Voice’, ‘La Voce’ is Watson’s ninth - and most personal - album. “I’ve truly given my heart and soul to this record,” he says, and you can most certainly hear it.‘La Voce’ is set to be one of the defining albums of 2010.
Russell Fan Q&A: Round Three

In the third and final part of our fan Q&A with Russell we talk
tattoos, Jack Duckworth, and Russell's brand new album 'La Voce.Q: What is your favourite track on your new album La Voce and why? (Eunice Pickles)A:
That's a difficult one, Eunice. I really, really like the adaptation of
Dusty Springfield's song, 'You Don't Have To Say You Love Me', it's a
great builder. But I also like the Godfather theme, I think that's come
out very, very strongly. It's big and is a great vocal showcase. Q: Would you like to appear in Coronation Street, if so which character would you play? (Sophie Williams)A:
It has to be Jack Duckworth, Sophie, haha! I would be able to moan a
lot. His character is just, you know, a grumpy old man, but really quite
comedic. It's a great character. There never seems to be anything
catastrophic going on in his life which I quite like. One of my dreams
is to have a cameo appearance in Coronation Street. I'd love that! I
don't really get much time to watch soaps anymore.Q: Do you have
to be pretty strict and set aside time each and every day to practice
your vocals, even when you are holiday? (Victoria Mason)A: Hi
Victroia. I'm supposed to, but I've got to be honest, I don't. This is
such an intense period, when I get an opportunity to rest, I like to
rest. There isn't much time that goes by when I'm not singing. I'm
always singing.Q: It is well documented that you don't like
salmon, which is a favourite of mine, so if you were coming to dinner,
what would I cook for you? (Sandra Dalziel)A: Hi Sandra. I'm
genuinely allergic to Salmon. Beetroot is also utterly disgusting. So
nothing with either of those two! If I was cooking, I'd cook something
like steak, potato gratin, fresh green beans, fresh garden peas and a
bit of pepper sauce on the side. And a nice bottle of Bolanger rose.Q: Would you get a tattoo done? where would you have it? and what would it be off? (Sarah Baron)A:
Hi Sarah. No, I just don't like them. My 15 year old recently mentioned
tattoos and I just gave her a look that only a father could give a
daughter when she says she wants a tattoo. If she got one I'd go mad!
I'm not a strict Dad but they know the guidelines. I'm not heavy duty
with them but they know when not to mess with me, like with tattoos and
stuff like that. She recently asked me about a belly button piercing and
it was just a flat 'no!'If your fan question hasn't been
answered yet, don't worry. There are plenty more fan Q&A
opportunities with Russell COMING SOON! Russell's amazing new album 'La Voce' will hit stores on November 29th. Pre-order now HERE!

Russell Fan Q&A: Round Two

We spoke to Russell the other day and, as promised, we managed to squeeze in as many of your fan questions as possible. Here's the second instalment from our Russell Watson fan Q&A...Q: Do you have any ambitions outside the music industry that you would like to fulfil? (from Sarah Phillips) A:
Hi Sarah. To be honest, I want more than anything else to just stay
healthy and happy. That’s predominantly it. Outside of my career? No,
not really. Just healthy and happy, my family too!Q: Who would
you most like to duet/collaborate with on a song, and are there any
collaborations on your new album, 'La Voce'? (from Kelly Dean)A:
Hi Kelly. Oh crikey! Sadly most of the people I have respect for,
artistically, aren’t here anymore - the great Pavarotti, Frank Sinatra.
Maybe Whitney in her hay day, that would take some beating. Or even
Mariah Carey, she’s got some voice on her. There are no collaborations
on the record. Specifically, I was really conscious on this album of
making sure it was all about the voice and the music above anything
else. We talked about duets on several occasions, but in the end we
decided it would dilute what we had.Q: Where would you go and what would you do on a date? (from Fenella Loveridge)A: Haha, good question Fenella… I would take ‘em to Old Trafford to watch Man United! Q: If you had to pick just one favourite song ever - which would it be and why? (from Tracy Bate)A: Hi Tracy. Nessun Dorma. It’s kind of pre-curser to my career and has significance for so many reasons.Q: Who do you listen to and why, and how do you choose the songs on your albums? (from Sandra Dalziel)A:
Hello Sandra. It depends what I’m doing. At the moment I’m really into
the Black Eyed Peas. I really like their new record, Boom Boom Pow, it’s
a brilliant record.Stay tuned for Round Three of Russell's fan Q&A coming soon!

Russell Fan Q&A: Round One

In the first part of our fan Q&A with Russell, we talk music, tennis and the strangest gift he's ever been given by a fan! Q: What do you do with all the presents you get given by your fans? (Barbara Bone)A:
Hi Barbara. A lot of them I drink… they send me a lot of alcohol. I get
Champagne and Chardonnay. I get sent a lot of cufflinks and ties, which
I wear. I’ve got to be honest, I have had some very odd gifts from fans
and I’m not sure what to do with them. The oddest gift I was ever given
was a silver Elvis monster outfit. Weird, I’m not sure why. Somebody
once sent me some bells, no note, it just said "I think you might like these".Q: What do you get up to when you have a day off? (Hayley Manning)A:
Hello Hayley. I like tennis. I think I’m quite good, yeah. I’m
certainly getting stronger. My fitness has improved a lot since losing
the weight I put on two years ago through chemo. I move around the court
better. Now as a result I feel a lot better. My biggest form of
escapism is my Playstation 3. If anyone wants to buy me any of the
latest PS3 games, mainly sport or shooting games, it would be gladly
appreciated… haha!Q: Would you ever consider recording a Christmas CD? (Sarah Baron)A:
I would never say I wouldn’t consider recording one, Sarah, but at this
stage in my career, no. I’m heavily into the artistic process that
takes place when making a record of the type that I’ve made recently. A
Christmas record for me at this stage would not be so artistically
rewarding. That’s not to say that later in my career I wouldn’t consider
it. Q: If you had a time machine and could go back in time and
could see a singer or musician perform who would it be and why? (Annette
Fice)A: Hey Annette. I think I’d like to go back in time and
see Elvis do the concert he did in 67, the comeback tour. I’d have liked
to see that. I appreciate the legend that he was in his hay day. It’s
astonishing. Q:What do you have playing on your i-pod? (Mavis Haddleton)A:
Well Mavis, It’s 32GB so there’s so much on there. I like my soul
music, James Brown, Freddie Jackson, Alexander O’Neill, really like the
Alexander O’Neill stuff. I’ve got piles of classical stuff on there and a
bit of rock too. Such an eclectic mix, everything from the Sex Pistols
to Chopin.Stay tuned for Round Two of Russell's fan Q&A coming soon!

No Manchester Run!!

I'm very sorry to say that I now won't be participating in the Manchester run on Sunday - whilst I was training for the run I injured my leg which has now put me out of the running. It's a huge shame as I was looking forward to giving some of the pro's a run for their money! Please don't worry, it's nothing too serious - I've just been told to rest it and I'm getting through lots of ice packs!

I'm still going to be working on the album - I can't wait for you all to hear it.

Lots of love

The voice is feeling strong which is good as I'm recording my new album in London next week.
I've also just pre-recorded an interview on the David Dickinson show, which goes out on 18th May at 4pm on ITV 1. What a lovely guy, we got on so well and had such a great time filming with him

Russell Radio 2 Event

Russell would like to advise his fans that he will not be appearing at the Radio 2 Hyde Park Abba “Thank You for the Music” Concert on 13th September.
Russell’s name has been connected with this event as he will shortly be appearing in Benny & Bjorn’s (from ABBA) new musical “Kristina” in New York but at the time that the Hyde Park concert takes place he will be deep in rehearsals in New York and was never formally approached about this concert.
Russell hopes that this confusion has not caused his fans any significant inconvenience or disappointment.

Many thanks for your continued support,

Russell HQ x

The Festival of Remembrance Performance Statement

The band of The RAF - Squadronaires who invited Russell to perform one of their favourite songs ' That's Life' , were so impressed by his performance at the Remembrance Day Festival at The Royal Albert Hall on Saturday night, that they have asked him to sing with them again.
Backstage after Russell's performance he was mobbed and duly signed autographs and had pictures taken with some of the service men and women, during which he was requested by a group of the Wrens as to whether he would be their Forces Pin -Up - of course, he gracefully accepted!
Russell found the whole experience on Saturday very humbling , " the RAF - squadronaires sounded amazing , so authentic , I felt so proud to be singing with such a fine group of human beings , let alone great musicians! " . He went on to say " I was incredibly proud to have been invited to perform one of their songs of choice at this most prestigious event ".
He now feels compelled to do more for the people who risk so much for their country, so much so, that he will be making himself available in 2009 to perform for the forces overseas. Russell is also donating tickets for his UK Tour to the Royal British Legion.
